The Chair has been requested by the UNESCO International Bureau of Education (UNESCO-IBE) with funding from the Inter-American Development Bank, and through the UNESCO Office in Port-au-Prince, to provide technical support for the implementation of Axis II of the PDEF: Quality and Relevance, devoted to improving the quality of the system in general, and of teaching and learning in particular. It will produce a report on the state of the curriculum in Haiti.

Coordonnatrice financière et étudiante au doctorat en santé et société (UQAM)Andrée-Ann Garneau is a psychoeducator and interdisciplinary doctoral student in health and society at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQÀM). She obtained her Master’s degree in psychoeducation from the Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue (UQAT) in April 2015, after which she worked as a school psychoeducator. Andrée-Ann is the financial coordinator of the CUDC. She is also a member of the Ordre des psychoéducateurs et psychoéducatrices du Québec. Her research interests include program development and evaluation, and student mental health and academic well-being. Her doctoral research project, under the supervision of Jonathan Bluteau and the co-supervision of Mélissa Goulet, is the development and evaluation of a social-emotional skills program through rough-and-tumble play in preschool and first cycle elementary school children. -

She began her university studies in psychology, where she discovered a passion for community work. After redirecting her career towards teaching, she cultivated her curiosity for research with vulnerable populations. Her interests focus on equity and inclusion in and through girls’ education in emergency situations. She is currently research assistant and coordinator of communications and social networks at the UNESCO Chair in Curriculum Development. -

Coordonnatrice et étudiante au doctorat en éducation (UQAM)Audrey G-Héon is pursuing a doctorate in education at UQAM, specializing in the didactics of the humanities and social sciences. She is interested in the educational potential of field trips and experiential classroom activities for the teaching and learning of history, geography and citizenship education in primary school. She is particularly interested in developing students’ empathy and critical thinking skills, as well as pedagogical approaches that promote inclusion, equity and social cohesion to address societal issues in the classroom. She is a lecturer at UQAM and Université de Montréal, a research assistant on various projects, and coordinator of the UNESCO Chair in Curriculum Development and of the journal Didactique. -

Professeur (UQAM)Jonathan Bluteau is a psychoeducator and professor in the department of specialized education and training at the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM), as well as an associate professor in the department of health psychology at Cergy-Paris University. Professor Bluteau specializes in program evaluation, but also in the study of youth mental health, biomarkers of stress, academic wellbeing and the impacts of school architecture on the behavior of students and teachers. He is a member of the Board of Psychoeducators of Quebec, the UQAM Health and Society Institute, the Quebec Society for Program Evaluation and the Canadian Evaluation Society. He is also a regular researcher at the UQAM Center for Learning and Performance Studies. -
Olivier Arvisais

Professeur (UQAM)Olivier Arvisais is a professor in the Department of Didactics at UQAM and Scientific Director of the Canadian Observatory on Crises and Humanitarian Aid. His research is centered around two poles. First, they focus on the didactics of the human and social sciences. Next, he is also a specialist in education in emergency situations. In this area, his research focuses on education initiatives in refugee camps, child protection through socio-emotional learning and education under armed groups or totalitarian proto-states. Finally, Professor Arvisais regularly works as a consultant-researcher for several international organizations, including the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. -
Stéphane Cyr

Professeur (UQAM)Stéphane Cyr is a Ph.D. in dactics of mathematics and associate professor in the Department of Mathematics at UQAM, where he has been working for 20 years in the training of primary and secondary school teachers. He is a co-holder of the UNESCO Chair in Curriculum Development since 2018. Researcher on several major grants with this Chair, he has conducted numerous works on curriculum reforms in Africa (Benin, Togo, Guinea, Gabon, Madagascar, Senegal, Mauritania, Niger, Cameroon, DRC (Congo)). He has helped support the education systems of these countries to improve the quality of primary and secondary teacher training, and has also developed several teaching materials adapted to these contexts. Professor Cyr is also interested in the study of video games for learning mathematics in primary schools. He is developing educational video games in collaboration with a Quebec company specializing in this field (Ululab). The game Slice Fractions designed through this collaboration has received numerous awards and distinctions around the world. -
Patrick Charland

Professeur (UQAM)Patrick Charland is Professor at the Department of Didactics at UQAM. For more than fifteen years, he has developed expertise in curriculum development, as well as initial and continuing training for elementary, secondary and university teachers in Quebec and internationally. A regular member of the Observatory of Education Reforms (ORÉ-UQAM), then a representative of the Faculty of Education Sciences at the UNESCO Chair in Curriculum Development, he participated in several capacity development projects. In addition, as a science and technology didactician, he has developed expertise in neuroscience education. He is interested in better understanding the learning techniques by collecting various neurophysiological data, live, during the learning process. His work is part of a new perspective in education sciences, generating massive data (big data) and using analytical perspectives associated with machine learning.
Impacts and scientific benefits
The study analyzes the curriculum from a systemic perspective to measure its degree of conformity with the orientations of the COC validated in May 2021, taking into account the question of the choice of the Creole language and its articulation with French. The adjustments to be made at the various levels of the existing curriculum to move towards curricular alignment with the COC are identified and detailed in the form of recommendations.
